The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde

One of my favorite classics, ever!

Not the best of Oscar Wilde but definitely one of his finest works - A book that continues to stay with me even though I read it such a long time ago. Buried deep down in my mind and is going to have a place of its own in my heart, forever.

Set in the late 19th century, Dorian Gray is a young and handsome man whose portrait is painted by a talented artist named Basil Hallward. Dorian becomes obsessed with his own beauty and wishes that he could stay young and attractive forever, while the portrait ages instead.

His wish comes true, and Dorian remains youthful and charming, while his portrait reflects the ugliness of his soul as he indulges in a life that is full of sin and corruption. The portrait serves as a metaphor for the true self hidden beneath the surface.

Not only can we see the consequences of the actions of Dorian Gray, but the book also teaches us the importance of living a life guided by morality and virtue.

All our actions have consequences, and the consequences are the true representation of who we really are  - the novel is the best example of that.

Behind every beautiful thing that existed, there was something tragic.
