Some Thrillers For The Road! (Pt.1)
“Thriller is a genre of fiction with numerous, often overlapping, subgenres, including crime, horror, and detective fiction.”
Hands down my favorite genre! There's just something about the suspense, the mystery, and the adrenaline rush that keeps me coming back for more.
Here are some of my most loved thriller books!
PART 1
1) Title: The Silent Patient; Author: Alex Michaelides
The story revolves around Alicia Berenson, a famous painter who seemingly has it all until she inexplicably murders her husband and then falls into silence, refusing to speak another word. The story is told through the perspective of Theo Faber, a psychotherapist who is determined to break Alicia’s silence and uncover the truth behind her actions. As Theo learns more about Alicia's past and thoughts, he becomes entangled in a web of secrets and lies that challenge his own understanding of sanity and madness.
2) Title: Dark Matter; Author: Blake Crouch
The story follows Jason Dessen, a brilliant physicist whose life takes a terrifying turn when one night he's abducted. He wakes up in a world where his family doesn't exist, and he's a celebrated scientist who has achieved groundbreaking discoveries. Jason explores this new strange reality and races against time to find his way back to his own universe. This book is filled with twists and turns and will make you ponder about the nature of existence and the consequences of one’s choices.
3) Title: The Push; Author: Ashley Audrain
It’s a story about a mother who thinks her daughter is a monster. Blythe Connor is a woman who becomes a mother for the first time and finds herself struggling with the challenges of raising her daughter, Violet. As she strives to bond with Violet and fulfill the expectations of motherhood, Blythe is haunted by her own troubled relationship with her own mother and grandmother. An emotionally charged exploration of the complexities of motherhood and a must-read!
4) Title: And Then She Was Gone; Author: Lisa Jewell
The story revolves around the mysterious disappearance of fifteen-year-old Ellie Mack and its aftermath on her family. As her mother, Laurel, struggles to come to terms with the loss, she becomes determined to uncover the truth behind Ellie's disappearance, leading her down a dark and twisted path filled with secrets and lies. It will keep you hooked from beginning to end. Thrillers don’t usually make me cry, but I cried reading this one, crazy!!
5) Title: The Family Upstairs; Author: Lisa Jewell
The story unfolds through multiple perspectives and timelines, bringing together the lives of three individuals whose fates become intertwined by the sinister history of a grand London mansion. Libby, Lucy, and Henry. Libby, who was adopted as a baby, inherits this mansion on her twenty-fifth birthday, unaware of the sinister events that unfolded within its walls years ago. This one has a second part as well - The Family Remains, which I cannot wait to read; Lisa Jewell’s work = A1!
6) Title: Verity; Author: Colleen Hoover
The story follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is hired to complete the remaining books in a bestselling series after the original author, Verity Crawford, is incapacitated following a car accident. As Lowen immerses herself in Verity's unfinished manuscript, she quickly realizes that the manuscript is filled with dark, disturbing scenes and reveals shocking truths about Verity's life. Keeping aside the controversy about C.H.’s books, this one is worth binge-reading!
If you find yourself in a reading slump or are simply looking to dive into the world of books, the thriller genre might just be your perfect escape.
Happy Reading! 📚🔖
